L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, the second city of Catalonia, hides many places to discover and has a history very marked by the immigration of the second half of the last century: in a few decades the city went from 5000 to almost 300,000 inhabitants.

The oldest building in the city is the Romanesque church of Santa Eulàlia de Provençana (10th-12th centuries). Also of medieval origin is the Xipreret street, where we can find some of the most notable buildings of the city, such as the Casa Espanya, now the Museum of History, or l’Harmonia. Nearby we find one of the icons of Hospitalet: the Atalaya, a 15th century fortified tower that, when the farmhouse of which it was part was demolished, was moved stone by stone to its current location. The neoclassical period left two examples of great beauty in the city: the stately homes of Pubilla Cases and Can Rigalt. But perhaps the best period in architecture were the final decades of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. In this period we have to place the Town Hall building, the Cosme Toda and Tecla Sala factories, the Can Boixeres palace and park, and different modernist buildings, such as the Botiga Nova or the Vilumara factory porter’s lodge.
