The existence of a true Renaissance in Barcelona has been the cause of many controversies. But beyond the debate among scholars, one fact is clear: two humanists of the stature of Bernat Metge and Juan Boscán were born in Barcelona and the Catalan capital is the only city visited by Don Quixote and his squire Sancho in Cervantes’ magnum opus:
