La Cerdanya is one of the most beautiful, finest regions of Catalonia. It is a large casserole, structured over the course of the Segre, with the funny feature of falling slightly, gently, from east to west, on an inclined plane. It is not a large sunken valley, but a recumbent valley. Surrounded by high mountains that border three thousand meters, La Cerdanya is not depressing, like so many places in the Pyrenees; On the contrary, it produces a sensation of width, elevation, lightness, and freedom. Its skies are splendid, its air is fine, its landscapes have an endearing tenderness. In this simple and poetic way, the writer Josep Pla describes one of the most beautiful regions of Catalonia.

And to get to know it better, at Enjoy Catalonia we have designed a series of excursions that will allow us to discover the most beautiful corners of Baixa (Spain) and Alta (France) Cerdanya.

On this occasion, we propose a complete tour of the region that will allow us to visit 3 beautiful villages of medieval origin (Alp, Bellver de Cerdanya and Bolvir) and enjoy a pleasant walk around the Puigcerdà lake, with impressive views of the mountains of the around.

– ALP

Alp is one of the most touristic towns in La Baixa Cerdanya. Located in the easternmost part of the region, at an altitude of 1,149 meters, its municipal area ranges from the Ceretana plain to the Collada de Toses and has an incomparable landscape: large expanses of forests, alpine terrain, meadows, pasture areas and crops etc

The town is a picturesque urban center, with a beautiful Romanesque church and the unique Torre de Río, a fortified farmhouse of medieval origin transformed at the end of the 19th century into a castle of romantic inspiration. Alp lives almost exclusively from tourism, since within its municipal area there are two of the most important winter resorts in Europe: La Molina and Masella.

– BELLVER DE CERDANYA

It is a beautiful town with a medieval air halfway between Puigcerdà and La Seu d’Urgell. Built on top of a hill, it is a perfect vantage point to contemplate and enjoy impressive views. Getting lost in its cobbled alleys, with stone and wooden houses, is a joy.

– BOLVIR

Located a few kilometers from Puigcerdà, the regional capital, Bolvir has become a luxury residential area, with a beautiful golf course and second homes of prominent Barcelona personalities.

The town has a privileged natural environment and an interesting architectural heritage, in which the church of Santa Cecília, the Remei sanctuary and the historic center of the town stand out.

PUIGCERDÀ AND ITS LAKE

Puigcerdà, the capital of La Cerdanya, is located right next to the border with France, and at more than 1,000 meters of altitude. Its small old town, with irregular, narrow and sloping streets, is worth a visit. But without a doubt, you will find the best walk through the city at the lake, whose construction dates back to the 13th century. A walk around the lake and through the gardens that surround it, an oasis of peace and tranquility, allow you to enjoy a majestic landscape.

If the weather forecast is bad or the situation generated by the Covid19 prevents us from doing so, the excursion will be postponed.
